Craig Ewers Academy is a leading Martial Arts gym based in Cardiff, South Wales.
Founded in 2012, originally as the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club 'Fightcraft', the gym has evolved to separate programme's in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Freestyle Wrestling, Judo & Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
Classes are based at Cardiff Martial Arts Academy, a full time dojo with a 2000 square foot training area; there is also dedicated car parking space for visitors.
The Craig Ewers Academy coaching team, are all experienced competitors within their respective disciplines; with many competing Internationally. The academy has produced & overseen the development of domestic & International champions in many disciplines including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Judo & Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
Are classes open to beginners?
The academy is open to all experience levels & a structured learning environment is provided from the first lesson; beginners will be made to feel welcome in starting their Martial Arts journey!
Do I need to be fit to start?
Whilst a general level of fitness will be of benefit; there isn’t a requirement to ‘get fit’ before joining; sparring duration & intensity can be gradually built upon each lesson to help you reach your fitness goals.
How are the classes structured?
Specific technical drills & exercises followed by situation and live sparring. Sparring is essentially trying to execute the techniques of the discipline against a resisting opponent in a controlled environment.
The sparring elements are optional but are frequently cited by practitioners as being the most enjoyable aspect of training!
What clothing should I wear to my first session?
Shorts & a t-shirt will be fine for the first number of classes; for the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Judo sessions a uniform known as a Gi is worn along with a belt; denoting experience & grade within the respective discipline; these can be loaned until you are ready to purchase your own Gi.
